Kitsilano Beach House

Layered rock forms and the juxtaposition between geometric and organic shapes were the catalysts for this sustainable landscape design. Directly adjacent to the iconic Kitsilano beach, the front of the property is designed to be integrated into the larger coastal environment, while the rear of the property is reminiscent of the local temperate rainforest. Sustainably-focused designs were incorporated throughout the site, specifically in the green-roofed garage planted with pollinator species, stormwater retention strategies, and exclusively arid plantings throughout the site.

Rocky Mountain basalt boulders and slabs anchor the landscape with the surrounding environment. The custom-cut address sign flawlessly holds the steel post along with integrated lighting.
The greenroof over the garage contains numerous pollinator species and native plants, with the intention of not requiring irrigation to thrive.
Yellow cedar was cut in irregular forms for complete privacy and visual interest throughout the landscape design, and is then set on custom blackened steel fence posts.
The coastal plantings in the front bed shift to lush, native forest species in the rear of the property. A custom gravel mix throughout the site allows minimal irrigation to be used for plants to thrive.
